      Overview

Prince Edward Island (PEI) is one of Canada’s thirteen provinces and one of the three Maritime Provinces as well as one of the four Atlantic Provinces. Prince Edward Island is the smallest province of Canada in both land area and population, but the most densely populated. The island has several informal names: “Garden of the Gulf”, “Birthplace of Confederation” or “Cradle of Confederation”. Charlottetown is the province’s capital and largest city. It is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, west of Cape Breton Island, north of the Nova Scotia peninsula, and east of New Brunswick, with the Northumberland Strait forming its southern border. The island’s climate has an oceanic climate that is moderate and heavily affected by the surrounding oceans. Agriculture, tourism, and fishing are the most important seasonal sectors in the province. Most rural cities’ economies are focused on small-scale agriculture, with no heavy industry or manufacturing, while Cavendish Farms has substantial food processing facilities on PEI.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was launched in 2001, with the goal of attracting and retaining more immigrants to the province who can assist in meeting economic and labour market demands and reaching economic success. Since 2015, the province has accepted about 2,000 new immigrants each year, and the figure is anticipated to grow in the future. Prince Edward Island’s Provincial Nominee Program (PEINP) allows overseas immigrant, with their relevant skills and work experience, to apply for Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Certificate and thereafter, they get eligible to apply for Canadian permanent residency Visa through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

PEI PNP features one upgraded category, i.e. PEI PNP Express Entry, with other two basic categories, i.e. Labour Impact and Business Impact.

The following are the immigration streams available through the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program:

      Prince Edward Island Express Entry:

Applicants who have already filed and submitted their profile in any of the Federal Express Entry online application programs, i.e. Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program or Federal Skilled Trades Program, and interested to live and work in the province of Prince Edward Island can apply through Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program Express Entry. Post which applicants need to wait to receive a nomination certificate “Notification of Interest”, which is duly based on the specific requirement of the government of Prince Edward Island. Applicants submitted for Canadian immigration through this category will obtain extra points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to be almost certain of receiving an invitation at the next draw through Express Entry. Candidates must demonstrate their skills that match with current PEI labour requirements, which fluctuate over time as the province’s labour demands evolve.

MoreOver, entitled candidates may get an advantage on processing time of up to six months.

      Labour Impact Category:

This category allows individuals to work and settle in Prince Edward Island who hold definite skills, highest level of education, and work experience according to the requirement of the local labour market Prince Edward Island. This category is divided into the following three streams:

      Skilled Worker Stream
Skilled foreign Workers who have been appointed by an employer or already working in Prince Edward Island are eligible to apply for Canadian permanent residence. Qualified workers should have relevant work experience having worked full-time for at least two years in the last five years (which matches with NOC 0, A & B) in a skilled profession along with at least post-secondary “Diploma or Degree” education.

      Critical Worker Stream:
The Critical Worker Stream is employer-driven, permitting companies of Prince Edward Island to employ low-skilled occupations that the local labour market cannot fill. Foreign Workers who have already been appointed and must be working in either as a semi-skilled or unskilled occupations, which includes truck drivers, customer service representatives, labour, food & beverage service and housekeeping attendants, for an employer of Prince Edward Island who can sponsor them to apply for permanent residency Visa

      International Graduate Stream:
This stream is an employer-driven program, which allows an employer of Prince Edward Island to appoint fresh graduates from recognized universities or institutions of Prince Edward Island. Qualified candidates will have to work in a skilled occupation relevant to their field of study.

      Business Impact Category

Foreign business managers and entrepreneurs, who wish to invest in Prince Edward Island, need to get a work permit and should start working on a work permit to study about the business in which they want to invest before receiving a provincial nomination. This immigration category is divided in three streams are the 100% Ownership Stream, the Partial Ownership Stream, and the Work Permit Stream.
